Yesterday (12/21/2015) I had the opportunity to help the crew at Coastal Empire Beer Company (Savannah, Georgia, USA) bottle one pallet of their Imperial Chocolate Stout, Midnight In The Garden, and two pallets of their Red Wine Barrel Midnight In The Garden.
It was a great experience to see the mechanized bottler and labeler in action and I even got to sample the beers straight from the bright tank and fermenter. The founder, Kevin Haborak, is also giving me the opportunity to come by the brewery next week during one of their brew days.
To say thank you for helping them at the brewery, Mr. Haborak sent me home with 3 bottles of Red Wine Barrel Midnight In The Garden, 3 bottles of Midnight In The Garden, and a 6-pack of Inshore Slam. Later that night I cracked open one of the bottles of Coastal Empire’s Red Wine Barrel Midnight In The Garden weighing in at 13.3% alcohol by volume (ABV). With this beer, Coastal Empire took their Imperial Chocolate Stout and aged it in red wine barrels for 6 months.
Coastal Empire’s Red Wine Barrel Midnight In The Garden came in a 1 pint 6 fl oz (22 fl oz) bottle with a label depicting the Bird Girl statue from The Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. I have added the description from the Red Wine Barrel Midnight In The Garden’s bottle label below:
“We aged our Imperial Chocolate Stout in red wine barrels for six months. It pours with frothy brown head and has a decadent dark chocolate aroma. The smooth bitter sweet chocolate backbone is complemented by hints of coffee, raspberries, dark fruit, and molasses.” – Coastal Empire Beer Company
