#632 Coastal Empire’s Dawn Patrol

Last night (12/16/2015) while watching Star Wars Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back (we are catching Ryan up for the new movie coming out), Ryan and I decided to try Coastal Empire’s Dawn Patrol from the beer stockpile (see #618 for more info on beer stockpile). This beer has some significance since it was brewed by the Coastal Empire Beer Company (Savannah, Georgia, USA) where I will hopefully be volunteering on the canning/bottling line during the next few weeks. I am actually going to the brewery this afternoon to talk with Mr. Kevin Haborak about helping out and to take the brewery tour with Ryan.

Costal Empire’s Dawn Patrol is an Imperial Breakfast Stout that was aged on coffee, raisins, serrano peppers, ancho peppers, cumin, allspice, nutmeg, and cinnamon for four weeks. This beer came in a 1 pint 6 fl oz bottle with a label depicting a surfer at what looks like Tybee Beach at dawn in front of the pier. According to the bottle, Coastal Empire’s Dawn Patrol won a bronze medal at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) under the Herb/Spice Beer Category.

I couldn’t find much information other than the GABF medal on Coastal Empire’s website (including ABV) so I’ll post what I found on the usual beer rating websites:

– Style: American Double / Imperial Stout
– Alcohol By Volume (ABV): 12%

– Style: Imperial Stout
– Alcohol By Volume (ABV): 10%

– Style: Herbed / Spiced Beer
– Alcohol By Volume (ABV): 10%

* * * Update: Tonight (12/17/2015) I went to the Coastal Empire Beer Company, and on their draft list Dawn Patrol was listed as 10% ABV * * *
