Last night (11/19/2015) I tried another Magic Hat brew I found at the West Indies Wine Company at Camana Bay in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. This beer was Magic Hat’s Snow Roller, a 6.2% alcohol by volume (ABV) Hoppy Brown Ale from the Magic Hat Brewing Company headquartered in South Burlington, Vermont, USA. Once again, the Magic Hat Brewing Company is currently owned by Cerveceria Costa Rica (a unit of the Costa Rican company Florida Ice & Farm Co.).
According to Magic Hat’s website, Snow Roller is brewed using Pale, Victory, Chocolate, Caramel 40L, and Caramel 120L malts; and Apollo and CTZ hops. Snow Roller exhibits 40 IBUs (International Bitterness Units; used to measure beer bitterness) and 27 SRM (Standard Reference Method; used to measure beer color). Magic Hat’s Snow Roller is available as a winter release in 6-packs, 12-packs, on draft, and as part of their winter variety pak.
As far as style and the more popular beer websites go, Beeradvocate and UNTAPPD both list Snow Roller as an American Brown Ale and ratebeer just says Brown Ale. Below is a short commercial description of Magic Hat’s Snow Roller taken from their website:
“Snow Roller rides a brisk hop wind that blows a bold bitterness across malt flavors of caramel and toasted biscuit.” – Magic Hat Brewing Company
