#609 Rogue’s American Amber Ale & #610 Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen

Ryan and I participated in another Friday Pieday yesterday afternoon (10/30/2015) at South West Collective in George Town, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. I ordered the Mexican Beef Pie and it was delicious. The only problem I have with the pies from South West Collective is because they are so small I feel like I could eat four of them at each sitting, even with a few beers.

While at South West Collective I had a few beers, the first being Rogue’s American Amber Ale. Rogue’s American Amber Ale is a 5.3% alcohol by volume (ABV) Amber Ale brewed by Rogue Ales headquartered in Newport, Oregon, USA. Rogue Ales operates brewpubs in Oregon, California, and Washington.

According to Rogue’s website, their American Amber Ale was brewed using C40, C150, 2-Row & Rogue Farms Dare™ & Risk™ malts; Rogue Farms Rebel hops™; free range coastal water & Pacman yeast. They also suggest food pairing with seafood or beef. As always their website boasts no chemicals, additives, or preservatives. A short tasting note description says from their website states:

“Tawny amber in color with a toffee aroma, tight head, and a delicate roasted malt accent. Generous use of hops and a smooth finish.” – Rogue Ales

My next beer, also from Oregon, was Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen brewed by the Widmer Brothers Brewing Company in Portland, Oregon, USA. Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen is a 4.9% alcohol by volume (ABV) American-Style Hefeweizen brewed using Pale, Munich, Wheat, and Caramel 40L malts; and Alchemy, Willamette, and Cascade hops.

Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen is available year-round and exhibits 30 IBUs (International Bitterness Units) and an OG (Original Gravity) of 11.75 Plato. Below I have added the description take from the Widmer Brothers website:

“MEET THE BEER THAT STARTED IT ALL. OUR NATURALLY CLOUDY FLAGSHIP BREW STARTS WITH THE HIGHEST QUALITY WHEAT. IT’S BOLD, CLEAN FLAVOR AND PRONOUNCED CITRUS AND FLORAL AROMAS ARE WHAT DEFINE AMERICAN-STYLE HEFEWEIZEN. SO POUR YOURSELF A COOL, CLOUDY GLASS, FINISH WITH A LEMON AND ENJOY THE ORIGINAL.” – Widmer Brothers Brewing Company
