Last night (09/03/2015) I tried Magic Hat’s Art Hop Ale, another beer I found at BlackBeard’s in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. Art Hop Ale is a 4.8% alcohol by volume (ABV) Peppercorn Pilsner brewed by the Magic Hat Brewing Company headquartered in South Burlington, Vermont, USA. The Magic Hat Brewing Company is currently owned by Cerveceria Costa Rica (a unit of the Costa Rican company Florida Ice & Farm Co.).
Magic Hat teamed up with SEABA (a Vermont non-profit) for the Labels for Libations contest where Vermont artists submitted original works for a chance to be on the label of Art Hop Ale. This year’s winner was Nicole Christman.
According to Magic Hat’s website, Art Hop Ale was brewed using pale and pilsner malts, CTZ hops, and pink peppercorns. Magic Hat’s Art Hop Ale exhibits 20 IBUs (International Bitterness Units; measures bitterness in finished beer) and 4 SRM (Standard Reference Method; measures color of beer). This beer is only available from April 1 until July 31 in Magic Hat’s summer scene variety pack or in 22 oz bottles.
Below I have added a short description of Art Hop Ale taken from Magic Hat’s website:
“THIS YEAR’S EXHIBIT OF ART HOP ALE IS A MASTERPIECE OF AN EASY-DRINKING PILSNER. HOPS AND THE ADDITION OF PINK PEPPERCORN EXPRESS THEMSELVES FREELY THROUGHOUT EACH SIP, LEADING THE ALE AFICIONADO TO A DELIGHTFULLY SPICY FINISH.” – Magic Hat Brewing Company
