Last night (08/07/2015) was a celebration of two beer “holidays” at Craft Food & Beverage Company (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands). The first, National IPA Day (Aug 6), was celebrated a day late and the second, International Beer Day (first Friday in August) was celebrated right on time.
While at Craft F&B Co. Ryan and I split an order of Beer Battered Cheese Curds with spicy ranch dipping sauce. They are amazing but quite filling.
I got the Jerk Chicken Alfredo (Big Green Egg jerk chicken, hand cut pappardelle, creamy Alfredo sauce, red onion, kale, and garlic toast) for my entrée.
To celebrate National IPA Day, which we missed the day before, I ordered Rogue’s Brutal IPA. Brutal IPA is a 6.3% alcohol by volume (ABV) India Pale Ale brewed by Rogue Ales located in Newport, Oregon, USA. Rogue’s Brutal IPA came in a 12 fl oz brown bottle with a red label and the words “Rogue Nation” and “Join Us” on the front accompanied by a black fist, and “Official Brew of the Rogue Nation” running along the bottom
According to Rogue’s website, Brutal IPA was brewed using 8 ingredients: 2-Row, Carawheat, C15 & Rogue Farms Dare™ & Risk™ malts; Rogue Farms Alluvial™ hops; free range coastal water & Pacman yeast. They also list seafood and beef as potential food pairing options.
Below I have added the tasting notes listed on Rogue’s website for Brutal IPA:
“A non-traditional India Pale Ale with big citrusy, hop flavor and intense hop aroma. Medium-bodied with a vibrant lingering hop-bitterness that is anything but brutal. Enjoy!” – Rogue Ales
My next beer, Cerveceria Mexicana’s Death Becomes You Amber Ale, was in honor of International Beer Day. Death Becomes You Amber Ale was a 5.5% ABV Amber Ale from Cerveceria Mexicana’s Dia De Los Muertos (Day Of The Dead) Craft Beer line. Cerveceria Mexicana is the third largest brewery in Mexico (located in Tecate) and best known for its flagship brand Mexicali.
According to their website, Cerveceria Mexicana’s Death Becomes You Amber Ale is brewed using 2 row, Chocolate, and Caramel malts; and Perles, Cascade, Magnum hops (coming out to 30 IBUs).
Below is a description taken from Cerveceria Mexicana’s Day Of The Dead Craft Beer website:
“Nice copper color with a creamy head. It is a rich pleasant ale perfectly balanced between soft toffee and caramel notes and a floral-hoppy bitterness. It has a semi-dry finish with subtle coffee notes.” – Cerveceria Mexicana’s Dia De Los Muertos (Day Of The Dead) Craft Beer
